50 Years Gone
Sorry we have been out off touch. While traveling through Texas and New Mexico we had limited Internet access. By Monday we should be caught up.
Last weekend, while Melinda was visiting and having a great time with with her cousin Kevin and his wife Lisa at Clear Lakes Shores north of Galveston, I was in RI running the Moses Brown School Classes of 71-72, 72-73 (the year I graduated) and 73-74 Basketball Reunion. Over 50% of the players on one or more of the teams attended.

On Friday we started with a dinner at the home of Bob and Susan Fine. Great food and a chance for all of us to reconnect. Saturday included silence and personal updating at the Providence Meetinghouse, lunch, year updates and a quiz at the MB Old Gym/Library, sharing stories of Coach Bill Mullin who passed away earlier this year around the center circle of the basketball court followed by some basketball competitions, and dinner back at the Old Gym/Library where each attendee was responsible for reminiscing about another player.

The weekend was an incredible high and hit. Although we do not see each other often, our bond is tight. The 71-72 Team led by “Captain” Bob Fine transitioned MB Basketball from 1-14 to 13-3. The 72-73 Team won 17 games and for the first time ever the Championship, and the 73-74 Team made it two Championship years in a row.
What we all remembered most was how we truly were a team. No one was the star and everyone was a contributor. Our time together this past weekend was almost as special as our time together on the court and in school together.
After flying back to Houston where Melinda did a masterful job of picking me up in Stargazer at Houston Hobby Airport, we drove over the next two days to Lubbock, Texas, the home of the largest contiguous cotton-growing region in the world and John “JK” Kirby. John was a member of the MB Basketball Team, one of my closest friends, and a person with a heart bigger than the State of RI. John could not join us in RI, so I brought the Reunion to JK. John, his wife Margaret, Melinda and I had great fun catching up and speaking the truth!

After our visit to Lubbock, we headed back on the road in search of National Parks and more Stargazer adventures.

Tremendous time with a bunch of great guys! They were my brothers away from home in my new home (especially as a boarding student). We bonded, and that bond has withstood time, as evidence when we got together! Love all you guys! Thanks for a great weekend!! Hopefully, it won’t be the last.
This is so precious.. all of it. The tenderness and the connection to the spirit of human connection. Geeze and BASKETBALL and Melinda finding yet another vessel to captain. I love the lives we all share.
This past weekend was so special in so many ways. After all of those years the bond was still so tight
Amazing
Thank you Greg
Being a teammate of Greg’s and the rest of the M.B. Quakers was a joy and a privilege, but was surpassed in every way by the warmth we all very much still have for each other. Thanks to Greg for spearheading this. Love to you and Melinda and safe travels.
Bob
Of course you did an amazing reunion for your basketball team – you are so good at that and add such meaning to such occasions! Hope the travels continue to be fun – love the updates and following you both across this amazing country!
