What Happened to Spring?

What Happened to Spring?

Before heading east, we visited a few more dinosaur museums. What incredible work has been done by the archeologists who participated in the digs, as well as the National Park Service staff responsible for displaying the work. We are so fortunate to have our National Parks and their beauty, but also all the knowledge they provide.

Our trip east from Utah into Colorado was along Route 40. The road was straight and there were very few cars. Our goal was to reach Steamboat Springs. Upon arriving we searched for a RV Park, but all the RV Parks were mud bowls and not very inviting. We decided to pamper ourselves and stay at the Rabbit Ears Motel. What a great sign and super place to stay.

It is all about messaging!

The Rabbit Ears Motel was across the street from a Hot Spring Recreation Area, so we slipped into our bathing suits and had an enjoyable soak. During our soak snow started falling so the site was quite magical. Next we walked the town, had dinner and then called it a day. The next morning Otto and I got in a well served walk.

From Steamboat Springs we headed to Winter Park. To get out of Steamboat Springs Stargazer had to climb to to Continental Divide where we were met by a major snow dump. The snows were falling and the winds were blowing. Off the road there were still two to three feet of snow and people were doing backwoods skiing.

From the top of the Continental Divide!

The true challenge came when we started dissenting from 9,600 feet and the road had been barely plowed. Melinda said to the driver “Suck it up buttercup” and off we went. Ace driving skills saved the day and Stargazer rolled into Winter Park undamaged and with pride intact.

  1. We did that drive a couple of years ago and met with similar conditions on June 1st! We thought that we would be seeing alpine wildflowers, but no! Glad you navigated the continental divide and the snow. It’s all daffodils and tulips here! xo

  2. CORRECTION!
Just letting you all know that the words “suck it up cupcake were never uttered”! I had my eyes closed and my hands were gripping the arm rests so tightly it took hours for the feeling to come back!
