Happy Times in Hubley
Stargazer’s final stop was in Hubley, NS, just outside Halifax, where we visited Jackson friends Jason Roth and Cheryl Steadman. We spent three wonderful days together touring, sharing meals, and enjoying time getting to know each other better.
Due to concerns about crossing the border, Jason and Cheryl—Canadian citizens who also have a home in Jackson—have decided not to travel to the U.S. for their usual January–June stay. They will be missed by all their friends!
On our first day, we toured the local area, including Peggy’s Cove and the memorial site for Swissair Flight 111, which crashed on September 2, 1998. The rugged coastline and picturesque harbor towns were truly sights to behold.

The next day, we ventured into the agricultural region of Nova Scotia, stopping first at an herb shop, then at a local restaurant, a harbor at low tide, and finally the town of Grand-Pré, site of the “Great Upheaval.” The tragic expulsion of the Acadians was immortalized in Longfellow’s Evangeline: A Tale of Acadie.

On our final day, Cheryl, Jason, and Greg hiked along the Nova Scotia shoreline. The weather was calm, and the hike was a great success. That evening, we enjoyed a delicious salmon dinner—cooked to perfection on a cedar plank—before heading into Halifax to attend Symphony Nova Scotia, Greg’s first symphony. Oh, what a night!

The next day, we packed up Stargazer and made the 12-hour drive back to Jackson. Many thanks to Canada and our Canadian friends for an amazing journey!

Thanks so much, you two. I loved the trip.
Grand-Pré and that chapel there made a huge impression on me. Powerful place with a heart-breaking story.
Great trip, thanks for sharing.
My wife and I have often talked about heading that way, and I think you have sold us on the idea.
Loved following along on your journey although it was spotty toward the end when we were in South Africa. Interesting that Greg had his first symphony concert – thoughts? Hope the reentry back home has been smooth. Be in touch,
