Quaker Book Fair a Success

Quaker Book Fair a Success

On Sunday Stargazer rolled out of Westport, Massachusetts with a smile and a RV full of great memories. Between Saturday and Sunday, the Westport Monthly Meeting 59th Annual Book Fair generated just under $40,000 in sales and the Book Sale is open until next Sunday. The record is slightly over $50,000. Monies are used to support the Meeting’s operations, as well as local nonprofit organizations.

Congratulations to Gretchen Baker-Smith, the Book Fair Clerk, and all the Meeting members, attenders and supporters for a job well done. Starting on Wednesday, we worked getting tables set up, media and games laid out, 6 for $1 ready, and much more. The big push started Saturday morning at 6:15 when we moved out over 700 boxes of books to lay out on tables.

Not knowing what attendance might be due to being shut down the last two years and remaining concerns about COVID, we were all surprised and pleased by the number of people who showed up for the Book Fair Opening. The tents and buildings were jam packed with people and everyone was finding what they were looking for and buying.

Besides helping with the Book Fair, I visited with Carl Freedman and Bev Enrich, good friends who had taught us Nouns in a Bowl, Roy Singleton, Kathy Brady and Mike Marra, at Roy’s home where his green thumb and eye for landscape design were evident, and Greg and Maureen Morrow and Kate Leary at the Book Fair.

Staying in Stargazer was perfect, expect when the well went dry at Westport Monthly Meeting due to Saturday’s overuse of bathrooms. The weather while I was in Westport was spectacular and I enjoyed catching up with many old friends. A highlight was the Annual Book Fair Debriefing Dinner with Buddy and Gretchen Baker-Smith at Ten Cousins.

Stargazer is back in NH and looking forward to Book Fair 2023!!!

  1. We can’t thank you enough! Start one more Book Fair somewhere else, now that you’ve got Jackson Library’s headed towards Classic Greg organizing, and you can declare us all franchises! Stargazer definitely added a level of class to the event, too. The place is hopping again today, and we are in great shape. Thank you for all of your teaching and keeping it fun!

  2. Great work passing the baton and creating another legacy. Glad it was a fun time as well!
