Take Me Home, Country Roads – John Denver

Take Me Home, Country Roads – John Denver

After spending a night in a busy Kentucky truck stop, we arrived in West Virginia, the home of the green rolling hills. Up and down we travelled until reaching Seneca Rocks Park where we planned to meet Cory, Kim and Ralph for a weekend of camping. BUT the weather did not look (and ended up not being) conducive for camping with a three-year old, so we quickly booked an Airbnb near Trout Pond, West Virginia where all five of us met up.

The Airbnb was perfect and we had a great time – Ralph and Otto swimming in Trout Pond, all of us hiking in Lost River Park, Kim and Cory competing at darts at a local pizza/beer hot spot, and Cory winning any games we played. We had not seen Ralph since Christmas and we all had lots of fun catching up!

From Trout Pond we headed north and decided to check whether good friends Frank and Gail Perretta in Clinton, NY were available for a visit – they were! So we spent a night near Cooperstown where we dumped out Stargazer’s holding tanks and then traveled to the Perretta’s for a pancake breakfast, stories, and true fellowship. From Clinton, NY we headed through the Adirondacks on a spectacular day, where we took the Essex Ferry across Lake Champlain and soon we were back in Jackson.

STILL THE ONE: Our time in Clinton reminded us that we met in 1974 and have been together for 50 years. Including this latest Stargazer Trip our life has been full of many wonderful times so we sang along with songwriters John and Joanna Hall who wrote Still the One – Still the one I wanna take along, we’re still having fun and you’re still the one!
