Acadia, Deer & So Much More
We had an easy trip from Jackson to Acadia National Park. BUT prior to leaving (the day before) due to a beeping propane alert, we learned that our batteries were at 4 percent and needed to be replaced. The Gorham RV Doctor was a lifesaver. On the way to ANP Stargazer shook off rust and was a RV Star!
For the first two nights we staid at the ANP Seawall Campground in Southwest Harbor. No electric or water, but a beautiful wooded setting. After getting Stargazer settled in we hopped on our new eBikes and had a great backwoods ride including a visit to the Bass Harbor Head Light Station. The day ended with a fabulous fire and our first night sleeping in Stargazer under a flannel king comforter (everyone, including Otto got some comforter).
The next day we headed to the 45 miles of ANP Carriage Trails. We road most of the Trails (and due to my direction errors, some more than once). Melinda led the ride and I did my best to keep up. The day was spectacular and the views just amazing. Following our ride we headed back to our campsite but first stopped at a local fish shack for lunch/dinner.
After returning to Seawall Campground I took Otto for a walk. The little rascal spotted a deer and broke out of his harness and was off like a honeymoon couple’s pajamas. I have never seen a dog run so fast! Just when I was about to give up calling and looking for him, he appeared far down the trail and returned with a big smile on his face, covered with watery dirt, and asking for dinner.
The next day we drove into Bar Harbor for breakfast at the Cafe This Way (thanks to Joyce and Huntley Allan’s recommendation). Great food and atmosphere. Don’t miss it. The town was full of tourists from the cruise ships. We drove the ANP Loop and then headed to our next campground, Acadia Seashore Camping & Cabins in Sullivan, Maine with a truly Cadillac view. Jay Kelly and Susan Malkin joined us and we got caught up by a roaring fire eating s’mores. The stars twinkled all night and we woke to 39 degrees and frosted windows.

It sounds like you’re having such an idyllic trip with the campfires, views, bike rides and starry, starry nights. I think Stargazer is one of the best ideas you’ve ever had and other than the mechanical glitches, makes it so possible for you to travel and enjoy friends, family and new places! That Otto is such a spunky guy, but I’m glad he didn’t meet up with another bear. (He should tell his story on The Moth.) And I love your creative phrasing about his speed and the “watery dirt.” I can’t see the Mainers adopting the term for late spring as “watery dirt season” though. We are enjoying your travels vicariously through your blog! Thanks!
Otto’s Bear Story has been recorded with Otto as the storyteller and will be shared later this month. Next he needs to work on his Deer Story!
Love reading about your trip and living vicariously! Reminds me of our cross country RV trip but our first night out of was about 10 degrees! What kind of ebikes did you get? Enjoy the beauty and adventure!! Big hugs!
We bought Specialized Ebikes. Working well for us. Did another 30+ miles yesterday around the Schoodic Peninsula.
Thanks for sharing! The ebikes sound amazing! So impressed that you traversed the trails in Acadia. Yay! Go Melinda (and Greg)! We love traveling along with you.
oh my it all sounds fabulous! so glad things goin well! love that y’all got your e bikes… a whole new world! ❤️
