Canadian Thanksgiving

Canadian Thanksgiving

We arrived in Halifax on Saturday, October 8th and staid with Melinda’s cousin Jack Crowley (Melinda’s dad Ed’s nephew) and his wife Marian. They live right next door to Dalhousie University where they both worked. Back 10 years or so ago I did work with the DU Continuing Education Department.

Our hosts treated us like royalty with an amazing fish chowder, an in-depth tour of Halifax (we ended the tour at a local club where Jack keeps his sailboat), and time for many stories of the Foley family. The story about the 1917 Halifax Harbor explosion of two munition ships was quite sad but inspiring. Also Otto and I got a chance to explore Halifax and discover many Canadian cats begging to be chased.

We visited the Halifax Public Gardens which were designed by a Crowley ancestor

The highlight of our Halifax visit was Canadian Thanksgiving with many of Jack and Marian’s relatives. Dinner was at jack’s daughter Amy’s house and the food was incredible. I got a bit confused by all the different generations and connections, but Melinda was who they all wanted to pump for family information and stories.

Jack. Marian and Melinda

We left Halifax on Monday and headed to Kejimkujik National Park. There is so much more to explore in Nova Scotia so we know we will be back.

Melinda has been testing out Tim Horton’s coffee and she is giving it a big thumbs up. I ate a box of timbits in honor of my pal Ray “Le Petite Prince (LPP)” Villanova.
