Biking Babes & Boys

Biking Babes & Boys

We left Jackson and the sun was starting to shine. By the time we reached Crawford Notch, the rains were back. It rained all the way to the ferry across Lake Champlain. But when we arrived at our rental on the New York side, the sun was shining. Good college pals Bill Harley and Debbie Block arrived soon after and we enjoyed sharing a dinner meal and catching up.

The rental house was perfect. It was right on the water and Bill and I enjoyed chilly morning and afternoon swims. For our Mount Washington Valley friends, Bill Harley, a two time Grammy winner, will be telling Stickeen on February 28th at the Jackson Public Library and performing a Community Show for adults and children on March 2nd. Mark your calendars!

The highlight of our time together was two amazing bike rides. One was on the New York side of Lake Champlain and the second on the Vermont side. We did over 30 miles each day and the weather was incredible and the views spectacular. We visited a farm to table farm restaurant, two great ice cream joints, and an apple picking farm with amazing cider. The riding pace was perfect.

Evenings included fellowship, great meals, tales of times past, and a couple of fun games. Bill and Debbie are incredible friends. We are so lucky we met at Hamilton and Kirkland Colleges and as Neil Young once said about Stephen Stills – We are still playing together!

  1. Very nice post. I’m curious if your bike rides took you across that causeway on Lake Champlain that, I think, is an old rail line? We sailed with friends on the lake in July and saw folks riding this trail. Happy and safe travels to you.
