Off the Grid
Sunday we traveled into the center of New Brunswick and spent Monday and Tuesday at Mount Carleton Provincial Park (MCPP). We were at least 90 minutes driving from any civilization. The Park was beautiful and we were there with five other RVs and a group of college-aged campers.
We took two long bike rides over very bumpy terrain. One was a loop around beautiful Nictau Lake and the second landed us in a great lunch spot with a spectacular view of the Park mountain range. BTW: MCPP is the end of the Appalachian Mountains.
Being off the grid means no electric, so each morning when we rolled out of bed the temperature was 45 degrees! On Tuesday I hiked Mount Bailey and started at the exact same time as the college-aged group. They took off like rabbits, and I like a turtle. The wise turtle made it to the top first as the rabbits ran out of steam. After the hike I celebrated with a dip in a very “refreshing” Nictau Lake.
Wednesday morning we packed up and headed to Prince Edward Island. For the next week we will be exploring the beauties of “parva sub ingenti” – the small under the protection of the great.
