Busy, Busy, Busy
For the last three nights we have stayed at the Twin Shores Camping Area on PEI’s Darnley Point. We are one of a few campers in a campground of over 700 sites (I am sure this place is rocking in the summer). We have a magnificent view of Darnley Basin and the Atlantic Ocean and enjoyed walking the beach (reminded us of days walking the Martha’s Vineyard beaches). The weather has been spectacular both day and night.
Our first full day included a bike ride along the Atlantic seashore in the PEI National Park. The day also found us at the Frosty Treats Dairy Bar where we helped FT celebrate their 50th birthday (started the same year we finished high school and entered college).
Prior to FT we stopped by the Anne of Green Gables Museum. The museum included the home and landscape that inspired Lucy Maud Montgomery to write the 1908 novel, Anne of Green Gables, about the adventures of 11 year old “spunky” orphan girl, Anne Shirley. The home was the original and we visited Anne’s favorite places – the Haunted Woods and Lovers Lane.
The next day we headed west and visited a very rural (and most of PEI is rural) part of PEI. The highlight was visiting the National Potato Museum where we learned a lot about potatoes (PEI produces more potatoes for Canada then any other Province) and ate a potato lunch (I had grilled cheese on potato bread with fries and Melinda had potato soup).
One phenomenon about PEI that we have been stunned by is the care everyone takes of their yards (many are quite large). The grass is green and every yard is manicured. It almost feels like there is a PEI ordinance requiring lawns to be cut and yards to be clear of objects that do not enhance the look.
NEWSFLASH: While we have been in PEI, brother Keith along with Kris have been in Washington, DC pressing the flesh. “Big Daddy” makes Presidential jewelry that is given to government officials as gifts and Keith and Kris attended a party to celebrate the 80+ year old organizer and the jewelry. Check out Keith with a party guest wearing his pin!

Love these updates! Looks like a great time to visit PEI.
Such an adventure and wonderful that the weather has been beautiful as we’ve had steady rain! Love seeing Keith and Nancy! ❤️❤️
looks amazing.
So smart to visit PEI after the crowds have died down, just as Anne Shirley would have seen it. I love the image of the manicured lawns and pristine countryside.
Love the pin on Nancy. Made in RI?
Megan and I decided after our trip to NB, that September is a great month to travel the Maritimes. We went to two parks, including Kelly’s Beach and Hopewell Rocks, and there were few campers and cars in the parking lots.
What fun you’re having! I hope you get to the musk ox farms where they harvest the fine underwool of the musk ox and have it spun into yarn called qiviut. I think is called Mini Mills… !!!!!
This looks like a great trip. Keep the photos coming.
