Everyone Needs Multiple Doses of Fiber
It is hard to believe but the eastern part of PEI is even more beautiful than the middle and west. We skipped Charlottetown for a future trip and first visited Victoria by the Sea and then arrived at Brudenell River Provincial Park (BRPP), our home for the next three days.
During our Victoria by the Sea stop we had our first dose of fiber – spinning, knitting and weaving that is. Melinda made instant friends with a fiber rock star and proceeded to purchase many beautiful items that I am sure will provide plenty of sustenance for her family during the long, cold winter. After our dose of fiber, we had our first fish and chips meal along with some local beers.
BRPP was busier than most campgrounds we have visited as Canada was celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day. The sunsets were amazing and we made friends with other travelers. After a good night’s sleep we took off and rode part of the PEI Confederation Trail (it goes from one end of PEI to the other). We visited two quaint towns and saw our first sailboats.
The next day Stargazer toured eastern PEI. The water views were spectacular and having lots of trees made us feel more at home. We started the day with our second dose of fiber. On a tip from Carol Entin, we visited Belfast Mini Mills where yarn is made from the undercoat of muskox. The shop was closing so Melinda got many great deals! Next door was a Rock & Fossil Shop with some very cool stuff.
We next visited the Singing Sand Beach where the sands actually sing when you walk on them. Then to the eastern tip of PEI lighthouse where we could see Cape Bretton. A few more stops – one where we saw the only wildlife during our PEI time (see photo) – and another at a local brewery for fish and chips and beer. Tomorrow we leave PEI and head to the Fundy Bay National Park in New Brunswick.
